The first rule of prospect engagement and conversion is to keep visitors on your site for as long as possible. Today we’re going to look at four ways to keep people on your site and bring them back after they’ve completed your assessment.
1. Link to Your Website in Your Assessment Results
Many of our clients use this approach. Simply put a link to your website in the assessment results presented to your users.
2. Embed Your Assessment ON Your Website
You can also embed your assessment directly on your website.
Even though your assessment will still be hosted on our servers (which is necessary to process the results of your assessment), by embedding it in an iframe it can look like it is a part of your website (with the same header if desired).
3. Send Prospects to Your Site After They Complete Your Assessment
You can send prospects to your website instead of showing their assessment results in the web browser. (You can still send them their results via email.)
To do this, select the “Edit Assessment” option from the drop-down menu for your assessment and then click on the “Edit Results” button. Uncheck the option to show the results on screen and enter a URL for your website instead. You can send them to the home page on your website, for example, or send them to a thank you page.
4. Send Prospects to a Page on Your Site based upon Their Assessment Score
Advanced and Private Label clients, you can send users to a page on your website based upon their score.
You can set up a page on your site for each score band in your scoring key, and present customized content to your users based on their score.
To do this, select “Edit Scoring” from the drop-down menu for your assessment. Then check the “Redirect to URL” box. When you check this option, a box will appear where you can enter the URL for the current scoring band.

We all know having a great looking web site is a must. The rest of your content should also reinforce your brand image as well as look professional and consistent with the rest of your site. Paying attention these style details gives your potential clients confidence that you’re committed to your business.
We created Assessment Generator to make it easy to create assessments that reflect your brand and the styling of the rest of your site. Here are some quick tips to take advantage of those features to make great, professional-looking assessments:
Use your own logo and colors to add your branding to your assessment. This color guide can help you use your brand’s colors to achieve the desired effect. Don’t know the hex codes for your logo’s colors? Use a tool like Chrome’s ColorPick Eye Dropper plugin to get the hex code from any web image.
3. Adding an iFrame to your web page and putting the assessment URL inside an iFrame – this will make your assessment appear to be live at your site, even though it is still hosted at Assessment Generator.
Below is the iFrame code to use to embed your assessment. Place it inside the body of your website and replace the XXXX with the ID of your assessment. Your assessment ID can be found by selecting “Add to Site” from the Actions drop-down menu in your Assessment Generator account.
When you use this code your assessment will occupy the full width of the web page. It will also work on mobile devices.
If you wish to have your assessment occupy only a portion of the page, for example in a sidebar alongside other content, contact your web developer to modify the styling of the iFrame so that it fits into your design.
We love to hear from our users and over the past few months you’ve given us some great ideas for enhancements to Assessment Generator. We’ve been hard at work turning those ideas into reality, and we’re ready to show off the results.
Here are four great new features that we’ve rolled out recently:
Radar Charts in Assessment Results
For type-based assessments (assessments that score users in multiple categories), you can now graph your user’s scores using a Radar chart in addition to Pie and Bar charts.
The radar chart shows the maximum possible scores for each category, in addition to the user’s score. In the example above, it’s easy to see that the user scored well in the “Technology Readiness” type, but needs to work on “Business Readiness.”
To change your type-based assessment to use a radar chart, log into Assessment Generator and find your assessment. Click Edit Assessment from the Actions dropdown menu.
Next, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Edit Results.” Find the field titled “Choose the Type of Chart to Show Your User” under On Screen Results and select “Radar” in the dropdown menu.
Redirect to a URL Based on Score
Segmenting your leads and targeting your marketing efforts can make a big impact. Targeted marketing lets you speak to your prospects’ unique needs and concerns.
With an Assessment Generator advanced or private label account, you can now redirect your visitors to any URL based on the score they receive on your assessment. To set up this feature, click Edit Scoring in the actions menu for a simple assessment, or Edit Types for a type-based assessment.
Click Edit for a score band or type. On the next screen, click the checkbox Redirect to URL and enter the URL in the Final URL Destination field.
Create pages on your site based possible outcomes of your assessment and send your visitors to the content that will help them the most.
It can be time consuming and tedious to create assessments with many questions. To help make the process easier, we’ve added the ability to duplicate a question. In the list of questions, click Duplicate in the Actions column for a question.
This will make an exact duplicate of the question below the original copy. You can then edit it to make it unique. In the case of an options question, all of the answers you have created will also be duplicated. The order of your answers will be maintained in the new copy of the question.
Many of our customers download the results for their assessments in CSV format for analysis in a spreadsheet program. We’ve recently added the numeric score value of each answer in addition to the text value. In other words, since a Yes answer to a Yes / No question receives a value of 1, the value 1 is shown in the CSV file along with ‘Yes.’
This allows you to perform detailed analyses of users who answered specific questions in specific ways.
To download your assessment results, click View results in the Actions menu for an assessment. Click the Export to CSV button and the file will be downloaded to your computer. Open the CSV file in any spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

The Problems with Assessments
Assessments are wonderful but there are some problems.
They are often very expensive to buy and administer. Many assessments are overly complicated, academic, and lengthy, which turns prospects off. Other assessments have the opposite problem: They are too brief or they are unsophisticated, like a quiz you would see in a magazine.
Assessments will not provide you with any of the benefits described above if they are not of highest quality and caliber.
Fortunately there are some solutions.

Or you can create your own. If you want to create your own, here are the ten steps to creating an excellent assessment:
Research your topic. Think about your areas of expertise and how they may apply to different assessments. Do not try to write an assessment on an area that is not within your expertise, it will be like false advertising and you will reduce your credibility.
Be sure that there is a market interest your assessment. Look up key words on sites like Overture.com to see what people are searching for.
Tailor the topic for your prospects and clients. The more relevant your topic for the people who come to your website and your current clients, the better. Think about who you want to target to turn from a prospect to a client. More focused assessments work better than broad ones.
Brainstorm. Creatively brainstorm all of the potential topics to include in your assessment. Do not censor yourself, just write down whatever you think is relevant.
Use References. Now, get input from the leading researchers and writers in your field. Gather a few key books and make sure that you are including all the topics these experts think are important.
Decide on a Length. Think about how many questions you will need to cover all the key points. In statistics, this is called the “power analysis.” Think about how long it will need to be to have “power” without being too lengthy.
Decide on a Format. The most common format is a “Likert Scale.” These types of questions have a statement and then the person selects an answer on a scale such as 0-4 or 0-5 based on how much that statement is true for them. You can look at other high-quality assessments to use their format as a template.
Write the Questions. Remember that the copy writing is crucial. The questions need to be emotionally-engaging, comprehensive, in language understood by your target audience, and concisely written.
Review the Questions. This step is very important. Go over the questions and then write down what important questions you left out the first time. If you want to keep your assessment to 25 questions, for example, then go over your questions to see what is redundant or not necessary and substitute with one of the new questions you generated.
Write the Scoring Key. The scoring key is possibly the most important part of the assessment. Without it, the questions would be meaningless. If someone spends their valuable time answering all you questions and then gets a contrite or unhelpful answer, they will be dissatisfied and annoyed. Be sure that your scoring key gives them the information they need to know, including what they can begin to do to change (such as coaching) if that is relevant.
You can also have a professional writer write your assessment based on your document, e-book, or fill-in forms.
Understanding your customers and speaking directly to them as individuals is a key element to a successful marketing campaign. With Assessment Generator you can use quizzes, assessments, and surveys to understand your users and provide them with the content and products most likely to meet their needs.
For example, you might have some products tailored to newcomers who need basic information to get going, and other more advanced offerings to help experienced customers get the most from your product or service.
You can design an assessment to figure out who those users are and provide the right content for them. This helps you present the right products and services to the users who need them. And by not presenting irrelevant content, your users will know that you understand them and their needs, individually.
Two Ways to Present Customized Content Based on Assessment Results
If you’ve used Assessment Generator before, you already know that you can create custom content for your users based on how they score on your assessment.
We’ve just introduced an exciting new feature for our advanced and private label users that allows you take this a step further by automatically directing your users to the webpage of your choice after they complete their assessment. Here’s how it works:
After your user submits their responses to your assessment or survey, Assessment Generator calculates their score, just like before. Then, instead of emailing their results or showing them on-screen, they’re directed to the webpage that you decide on based on their score.
How to Set it Up
Setting up this new feature is easy – here’s how:
Log into your Assessment Generator account and find the assessment you wish to use.
In the Actions menu, select Edit Scoring or Edit Types
Edit the type (for type-based assessments) or the score explanation (for simple assessments)
Select the “Redirect to URL” checkbox
Enter the desired URL in the “Final URL Destination” field
A few notes about this feature:
This feature is only available with our Advanced and Private Label accounts. If you have a Basic or Free account and wish to use this feature, follow the “upgrade” link that you will see on this page.
For a type based assessment the process is very similar, but the screenshots above will look slightly different.
If you have a “Final URL Destination” set up for your assessment as a whole in Edit Assessment -> Edit Results, the score or type specific URL redirects described above will be used instead.

Set Up Your Assessment for Sharing
This is what allows Facebook and other social media platforms to automatically add nicely formatted links to posts. You’ve probably seen them:
All you need to do is provide an image and a description. Here’s how:
Enter the URL of the page you would like to share in the “URL to Share” field. This is the same URL you used in the Facebook debugger. You can find it in your Assessment Generator account under Action->Add to Site.
Choose the layout and size of the button.
Click the “Get Code” button
Select the “Iframe” tab and copy the code shown
Add the Code to Your Assessment
In your Assessment Generator account, find your assessment and click Actions->Edit Assessment
At the bottom of the page, click “Edit Results”
Find the “Results Header” box and click on the “Source” button
Paste the code from Facebook into the box. The code can be by itself, or in addition to other content.
Preview your assessment, and you should see the share button on your results page.
You can add the share button to any of the fields in assessment generator that allow HTML formatting. For example, you could add it to your assessment footer to have it show on every page.
